(Wii) System update brings massive amazing changes....

.... yeah..... you believed that one :PSo rather than giving us the one feature we all want: Being able to run VC games off the SD card, we get a digital clock and other minor tweaks. Pics of the updates on the japanese wiiFirmware upgrade brings us these updates, thanks to NeoGAF. Thanks to everyone that sent this in!Channels:
-Digital Clock added to the Wii Menu right under the channel bar
-Forecast Channel now displays the current condition (cloudy, raining, etc.) directly in the Wii Menu in the Forecast Channel box
-News Channel can now show 2 scrolling headlines at a time in the Wii Menu, 3 when you click on the button
-Message Board now has the ''Today's Accomplishments'' message as a white message which allows it to stand out from other messages
-Address Book entries can now be shifted around using A+B but only to empty spaces. Not too convenient.
-Calendar in Message Board no longer shows ''Today's Accomplishment'' only days as having messages
-Scrolling messages in the Message Board now uses a different sound
Wii Shop Channel Overhauled (Visual aesthetic is the same, changes made to organization and browsing methods mostly)
-New Welcome screen detailing 4 Recommended Titles and the points they cost (gone is the title screen bar that had linkable games). The title bar can be clicked on to bring up a list of 20 recommended games.
-Titles You've Downloaded was moved to the main shop menu
-New ways to browse
-Popular Titles (2 pages of 10 and includes launch games so not only based on recent info)
-Newest Additions remains the same
-Search for a title which can use partial names
-Search by Category
-System shows the different systems and how many titles have been released under each
-Publisher showing different publishers and amount of titles released
-Genre (different genres listed and amount of titles under each)Settings
-Warning added pre-system update detailing that technically modified consoles may cease to function upon being updated. Also the only way to not accept an update is to power down the console by holding the button for 4 seconds (the user can't back out of hitting I Accept w/o powering down)
Screens here(Wii) System update brings massive amazing changes....
Of course, the one update that I wanted was the ability to store my VC games in folders, rather than having individual channels for every last one of them. Also, why do I need to see the platform of the game flash on screen? Just show me the title of the game, and if I really want to find out the platform of the game, I can click on the game and see it listed in there.

I wish they had made the most obvious update. Seriously, nine months after launch to do this?
That is SO annoying
I for one like the update i admit that full sd card support would be great, but what can we do.I really the shop channel update i love how well organized it is.Ok that clock has to go it's ugly.

So does the wii prompt you to download the update or do you have to do it yourself.
So does the wii prompt you to download the update or do you have to do it yourself.
I just did it myself through the menu when I heard the news. I'm always testing my connection so I check for updates regularly.
Weak update. What we really need is an expanded Wii Menu (for as many channels as are in the system memory - have it grow new pages as needed) and the ability to run VC games from an SD card because all that switching around is really annoying.
Another ''Meh'' inducing update. The only thing on that I remotely find even sort of useful is the digital clock on the Wii home menu.
Hey, i went on the shop channel to the games i've downloaded and like half of them have updates. So.... what are the updates doing?

I just noticed this under Settings in the Wii Shop Channel:''Remove Wii Shop Channel AccountTo clear information from the Wii Shop Channel, including transaction records and rights to downloaded software, you must remove your Wii Shop Channel Account. If you plan to transfer ownership of this Wii console, you can't transfer Wii Points purchased or software downloaded, so you'll need to remove your Wii Shop Channel Account.''WTF? Downloaded software and Wii points are locked to the console, but we can't sell that console with all of those games and extra points included to someone else? That's seriously stupid! There's no way in hell I'm going to just delete all of those games if I decide to sell the console. Besides, how are they going to know who's playing them anyway? Digital rights nonsense. :evil:However, I would delete them if Nintendo allows me to move those games over to one of their future consoles (Wii 2 for instance).
Just as an extra note guys, it also seems that the 3.0 update also brings USB keyboard support for Messages and the Wii Shop channel. It supposedly doesn't support all keyboards, but a few sources seemed to have confirm that this is indeed true. This is definitely a good positive step, and when they offer this support to the Internet Channel (or possibly games) this will be an even more meaningful expansion of things!

Nintendo should realise a supported wireless keyboard peripherial for the internet channel. I swear I would be online with Wii all the time than, its what I wanted since day one if you guys remember me yammering about it. Exciting to think that we my be close to my vision!

The only thing in this update (besides this possibilty) that is any use to me is the digital clock. Seriously big N give us the ability to store your VC games on memory cards, give us a wireless keyboard for the internet and well ill be one happy camper.
Cool, let's hope the next update has actual screen names replace friend codes.
Another thing that I noticed about the update is that when I go to the settings on my Wireless router, the Wii identifies itself on my DHCP table instead of being a blank spot.

Just tested those with my apple keyboard. As said, it works for messages and searching in the shop channel but not the Internet Channel. The keyboard doesn't receive power except when the text window pops up and you need to enter something. For to work in Opera, I figure the browser itself would need to be updated.
I like the new VC store, very well done and organized. But the genre section is all messed up. The games can appear in multiple categories which makes me wonder why action and adventure were not put into one big category, they share almost all the same games. Also I saw Castlevania under shooter, what? Comic Zone is under fighter. Zelda: OoT is under RPG.

Yeah, I suspect that we'll see an internet channel update before too long that'll allow keyboard use, and make the web browser infinitely more useful. All in all, I'd still say it's a nice update.

The Virtual Console channel needed an update, so that was definitely worthwhile. I doubt an Opera update would be freely available to those who downloaded the Trial, though.
