Tony Hawk is the most glaring example and doing this is something that would make sports fan happier too.
Basically EA Tiburon would make maybe 3 Maddens per console generation and leave roster updates, smoothening the animations, gameplay, and game mode improvements for online updates.
Are we nearing the point where yearly franchise have a change in formula?
Pretty much any sport game to be honest. The majority of them have minor tweaks and roster changes, both I'm sure could be solved with a downloadable update...but why would you do that when Madden is one of the most popular franchises out there.
