How would you rate Darkwatch with the best FPSs of last-gen?

Certainly one of the best FPSs on the PS2, but on the XBOX it had some competition obviously. But is it just me or was this game underrated? Or was it rated fairly because it really wasn't a great game? I personally think this game is quite good and it was certainly one of the most original concepts for a FPS for sure, and way better than the other western-themed shooters like Gun or Red Dead Revolver...oh yeah, Gun wasn't a FPS, but it was still a shooting game. There was another funny western shooter but I forget what it was.Anyway, how would you rate Darkwatch among the top FPSs of last-gen? Just curious what people and FPS players thought about this one.How would you rate Darkwatch with the best FPSs of last-gen?

[/QUOTE]I was looking for a FPS action game that dealt with killing monsters. I tried Painkiller for the PC. And although the physics, animation, and monster designs were some of the best I've seen, the repetitive trigger-happy gameplay didn't keep me interested. It was basically like the 3D Castlevania games just with guns. But Darkwatch was closer to what I was looking for. It has actual level designs that are more like the modern FPS rather than the style from the old days like the original Doom or Serious Sam games. That's why I think the concept for Darkwatch was pretty cool, and it was quite well done on the developers part with good physics, animation, etc. It's not perfect, but I'd take Darkwatch over Painkiller anyday. Not because it's a better game, but only because the gameplay is more geared toward what I like in a FPS.

Which is more accurately described as an action game set in first person, than as a ''shooter''.In my opinion, a ''shooter'' is Serious Sam, Doom, Painkiller, Unreal, Quake 2, etc. These are shooters in the classic early 90s sense. Extremely mindless. It annoys me when people use the term ''shooter'' as an insult to describe games like Half Life or Far Cry, only because they are set in first person. When they hold very little in common with a pure twitch shooter that is trying to convey the first person game style of the early 90s.
Darkwatch had some good, even great, level design. What it lacked was a solid gameplay experience. The Jump JUMP was a little...awkward, the powerups were wonky, and some of the weapons were bland. The design (and even some of the animation) was great, but at its core it was a mediocre FPS.
I played it on the PS2, and thought it was a solid game that deserved more praise than it got. I still enjoyed Project Snowblind and Killzone more, but think Darkwatch was probably in the top 5 FPS available on the system.
